First Impressions #69: Joseph Reiff on White Methodism and Civil Rights in 1960s Mississippi

Born of ConvictionIn 1963, a small group of white Methodist pastors in Mississippi signed a protest statement against segregation. Although harshly criticized by their peers, they broke the unanimity of white resistance to racial justice. Art Remillard talks with Joseph Reiff about his new book, Born of Conviction: White Methodists and Mississippi’s Closed Society. Reiff is professor of religion and chair of the religion department at Emory and Henry College.
