Asking Better Questions about Ancient Material Culture

Phillip Sherman talks with Erin Darby about  ancient Judean pillar figurines.

Professor Darby uses the example of Judean pillar figurines to examine methodological approaches for interpreting material culture. She encourages historians to be more rigorous and constrained in their theories. They also discuss the religions of ancient Israel and Judah.

This interview took place on the campus of Maryville College. Erin Darby is Assistant Professor of Early Judaism at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
