John H. Haas is associate professor of history at Bethel College in Indiana, where he teaches US history, specializing in American religious history, and US foreign policy. He spent last fall at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame; his current research is on the topic “Does War Work? The Paradox of Power in US Foreign Policy since 1945.”
