Margaret Litvin is associate professor of Arabic and Comparative Literature at Boston University and founding director of BU’s new Interdisciplinary BA in Middle East and North Africa Studies. Her first book, Hamlet’s Arab Journey: Shakespeare’s Prince and Nasser’s Ghost (Princeton, 2011), explores the many rewritings and appropriations of Shakespeare’s Hamlet produced since 1901 in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and the Arab diaspora. Her current research (provisionally titled Another East: Arab Writers, Moscow Dreams) explores the literary and personal ties connecting Arab writers with Soviet sources and experiences during the long twentieth century. She also writes about contemporary Arabic theatre. Her articles and reviews have appeared in Critical Survey, the Journal of Arabic Literature, PAJ, Acotaciones, Shakespeare Studies, Shakespeare Yearbook, Shakespeare Bulletin, and Theatre Research International.
