Diane Winston is Professor of Journalism and Knight Center Chair in Religion and Media at the University of Southern California. She holds degrees in journalism and religion from Columbia and Harvard Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in religion from Princeton. Her research focuses on religion and the media, and has devoted particular attention to faith in the marketplace. Diane is the author of Red-Hot and Righteous: The Urban Religion of the Salvation Army (2000) and editor of Small Screen, Big Picture: Television and Lived Religion (2009) and The Oxford Handbook of American Religion and the News Media (2012). In addition to her work in the classroom, she acts as Publisher for Religion Dispatches, an independent, secular online magazine that covers the intersection of religion, politics, and culture.
